Amharic anyone?

I'm so excited, I ordered a book and CD called Simple Language for Adoptive Families-Amharic. I got it today...it's really good, believe it or not.....you just never know with things like this. I am hoping it will help us talk to the nannies that have taken care of our child and to help us connect to her at first. The "experts" say to use words she is used to hearing to help sooth and calm them.
So...let's practice together.. :)

I am your Mommy. Eh-NAY eh-NAH-tish negn (It's different for boys...)
You are my daughter. Ahn-CHEE lee-JAY nesh
I love you so much! Beht-AHM ehn-wuh-dih-SHAH-loh!!!!!

Oh, boy...this may take awhile. Luckily, I have a CD to listen to the pronunciation.
I'll let you know how we are progressing.

  1. Just checking in on you! Seems the nesting is going well.

I wish I would've thought to tell you that we have the Simple Amharic stuff. I could have sent you ours! I didn't use it as much as I thought I would - our new kids picked up English so fast and my "mommy brain" did not pick up much Amharic!

Keep me posted on any new referral talk!

  2. Yikes....we never learned any Amharic the first go around (and didn't really need it for travel), but have talked about how important it will be to learn some key phrases if we bring home a little older child! Keep me posted on how it's going - we may need to get together and practice! (now, wouldn't that be FUNNY to watch??)
